CYNTHIA O'NEAL FEATURED PANELIST AT DONNA KARAN'S URBAN ZEN INITIATIVE WELL-BEING FORUM
|
New York, NY, May 1, 2007 — Cynthia O'Neal — the co-founder and president of Friends In Deed —
will be one of the featured panelists at fashion designer Donna Karan's Urban Zen Initiative
Well-Being Forum that is being held at the Stephan Weiss Studio in New York City from May 14 to
May 24, 2007. This forum will include leading figures in healing and well-being from around the
world.
Cynthia O'Neal — whose work in support of all affected by life-threatening illness was featured
on OPRAH — is scheduled to appear May 14th on the opening day panel with Ingrid Sischy, Dr. Mosaraf
Ali, Christy Mack, Dr. Woodson Merrell, Dr. Christiane Northup, Dr. Larry Norton, Rodney Yee and
Prof. Robert Thurman. Friends In Deed staff members Cynthia Burke and Dr. Eric Schneider will
appear on subsequent panels.
Donna Karan's inspiration to organize this forum came about based on her experiences with her husband:
"When my husband Stephan was sick, so much was missing from his care... I am determined to do what I
can to help create a new model for approaching wellness and patient care. My mission is to create a
working environment where the worlds of conventional and alternative medical practices unite to invent
new ways of healing, health and well-being for all of us. We must treat the patient with the same
passion with which we fight the disease."
Founded by Mike Nichols and Cynthia O'Neal in 1991, Friends In Deed — The Crisis Center for Life-Threatening
Illness — provides emotional and spiritual support for anyone diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, cancer and
other life-threatening physical illnesses. Support is also available for family, friends, and caregivers
of those who are ill, and all dealing with grief. Friends In Deed also runs an HIV prevention program
for teens in NYC public schools, having reached over 100,000 at-risk students since the program began.
